Greystoke Mahale

Greystoke Mahale: Our View
Approaching Greystoke Mahale aboard a traditional dhow, surrounded by the azure waters of Lake Tanganyika, is akin to being transported back in time. White sandy shores beckon, and the rising tropical forested mountains above the shore fill your heart with the excitement of what lies ahead. Greystokeâs jungle-chic lodge awaits! Nestled within the fringe of the jungle, the lodge has been designed and decorated to blend into this extraordinarily unique location.  With only six thatched en suite âBandasâ, exclusivity and privacy are guaranteed. Each Banda has hot running water, flush toilets and an upstairs relaxation deck with uninterrupted views of Lake Tanganyika.
Activities focus on exploring the surrounding Mahale Mountain National Park, trekking the forest paths in search of the wild Chimpanzee troops. With your experienced guide, you can sit quietly, in harmony with nature, and watch the Chimpanzees as they go about their daily lives. Explore the mountainâs jungle habitat, with its soaring peaks shrouded in morning mist, dense forests filled with massive trees, vines, leafy paths, and gurgling mountain streams. Besides the Chimpanzees there are eight other species of primate to be found here, insects unseen elsewhere, and a pharmacopeia of medicinal plants. Often you see just a flash of whatâs in the shadows: the silhouette of a red-tail monkey, the scarlet wing of a turaco, the neon of a rare beetleâs back!Â
At Greystoke Mahale you can relax in the African sunshine on their powdery white beaches, take a kayak out onto the lake, and enjoy a sunset dhow cruise or a swim in the dazzling lake waters. There is plenty of time to relax as well!
