Changa Safari Camp: Our View

Lying on the shores of Lake Kariba, overlooking the flood plains with the majestic Matusdona mountain range in the background, Changa Safari Camp is one of those heavenly places one never actually wants to leave. Located on their private concession within the Matusadona National Park, Changa Safari Camp offers an extremely remote, intimate and personal safari experience.

With accommodation for a maximum of only 20 visitors, this owner-run safari camp focuses on one-on-one guest relationships, with a very strong emphasis on rest, relaxation, decadent food and wonderful activities and accommodations.

Each of the individually decorated six twin/double East African style tents and the 2 family tents feature en suite outdoor showers and baths and private decks with stunning views across the lake to the mountains. Soak up the relaxed informal atmosphere by the infinity pool, or take part in the all-inclusive land and water-based game viewing activities on offer, the choice is yours. Morning and afternoon boat cruises, fishing, game walks and drives will keep you busy, surrounded by wildlife and unending beauty. Not far from Changa Safari Camp is the Sanyati River gorge, where you can meander peacefully through the steep cliffs for up to 10km. The Sanyati Gorge is both un-spoilt and undisturbed with an abundance of birdlife, the occasional sighting of antelope and great fishing. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars for this activity as the dramatic landscape will leave you speechless.

Changa Safari Camp:  The Details

Changa Camp is reached either by motorboat from Kariba town/airport or by light aircraft transfer to the Fothergill Island airstrip, which is only a short boat ride away from camp.

The area has over 350 different bird species and boasts a large number of predators including lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena supported by healthy populations of prey species. There is an abundance of large tusker elephant, large herds of buffalo and a large variety of antelope that mostly frequent the shoreline of the lake. Another common sighting seen whilst exploring this magical park is the hippos and crocodiles that reside in the cool waters of Lake Kariba or seen basking on the lakes sandy banks in the sunshine.

We would highly recommend a minimum three night stay at Changa Safari Camp, and can easily combine it with visits to Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park and farther afield. Â
