Budongo Eco Lodge: Our View

Situated in the heart of Budongo Forest Reserve, part of Murchison Falls National Park, Budongo Eco Lodge provides reasonable and affordable accommodation in one of the largest and most beautiful rainforest locations in Uganda. Budongo Forest Reserve boasts 9 different species of primates, 360 species of birds, over 290 different types of butterflies, and some of the oldest trees in Uganda.

Budongo Eco Lodge offers many advantages for a traveller arriving after the long road journey from Kampala. This lodge is one of the first lodges that one reaches after entering Murchisons Falls National Park. While this is a budget lodge, it is well positioned in the heart of the Budongo Forest Reserve and we found their food good, although the wine list/bar menu was limited. Their accommodation was reasonable, although the sunken en suite showers were difficult to negotiate and should be approached with caution. Overlanders frequent the campsite here too, and can be a bit noisy, as can the semi-detached sleeping chalets with their thin wooden walls.

The Chimp tracking with forest walk was excellent! Our guide was passionate and interesting, while the ancient forest was beautiful. Although we only caught glimpses of Chimps in the forest we learned a lot about the local flora and fauna on our walk.
