Siwandu Camp: Our View

Siwandu Camp is located in the Selous Game Reserve part of the Nyerere National Park, perfectly situated in a grove of palms on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, which is part of the watery byways of the Rufiji River system.

The 10 spacious octagonal canvas tents are broadly spaced along the lakeshore, ensuring maximum privacy. Each tent is equipped with an en-suite bathroom and is covered in secure mosquito netting, allowing for constant air flow and also enabling guests to view animals from the comfort of their own room.

In-between game activities guests may wish to relax next to Siwandu Camp's shaded pool or enjoy a drink on their wooden-decked verandas, whilst taking in the magic that the African bush here has to offer.

Wildlife viewing at Siwandu Camp is unparalleled. In particular this area is renowned for its predators, as well as its huge herds of buffalo, other antelope, and its prolific hippo population.

Siwandu Camp offers a diverse range of activities to ensure guests take full advantage of having the rich African wilderness on their doorstep. Activities include game drives, guided game walks as well as boat cruises.

Siwandu Camp: The Details

The Nyerere National Park has over 2,100 species of plants, in excess of 400 varieties of birds, more than half of Tanzania’s elephant population and over 120,000 buffalo. The Park's 40,000 hippo and 4,000 lion are probably the largest localised populations on the African continent. Nyerere National Park is also home to Africa's largest population of rare and endangered wild dog. This astonishing wealth and diversity of wildlife allows guests a rare opportunity to glimpse all of these animals in truly unspoilt landscape.

Due to the regional topography and the proximity to water sources, activities generally leave after a leisurely breakfast, to explore the reserve before returning for lunch. Early drives can be arranged in camp on request and are subject to availability.  Afternoon activities start out after tea and return for evening drinks around the camp fire. Night drives are not allowed in the Park. To avoid the heat of the midday sun, game walks are either at dawn or in the early evening.
